It is the panel that retains the exhaust air filter, holding the media seated so the machine's outgoing air passes fully through it before it exhausts. A cracked cover or a broken clip lets the exhaust filter shift, and air then bypasses the media and pushes fine dust back into the room. Brittle plastic and repeated filter changes are the common
